Are You On An Anti Acne Diet?

21.08.2008 | Author:Clare

Acne is a common problem especially for those who are just experiencing their beginning teenage years. Through the combination of hormonal changes and improper diet and poor hygiene, acne can rear its ugly head. One thing you can do is develop an anti acne diet which can help you battle against the acne triggers in food. I know many experts say that diet has nothing to do with outbreaks of acne, but having suffered myself, I know by experience, that it is not true, diet is a trigger.

An anti acne diet would be a diet which will help to lessen the effects these contributors. There are actually many things in an anti acne diet that should be followed even if you are not suffering from acne. These things should also be complemented by the right kind of hygiene and care for your skin. This is because the said skin condition can be aggravated by the touch of dirty hands and clogged pores from excessive perspiration. Mine flares up during hot humid days.

Since the skin condition is the result of clogged pores, the anti acne diet will work best if you refrain from overly touching your face and also applying too much make up. Trust me, face touching only spreads the dirt from your hands to your face, assisting the clogging effect. Many types of make up can actually contribute to clogged pores which is you should avoid wearing if you are experiencing a rise in your acne breakouts, because it can be a trigger to you.

Bad things for An Anti Acne Diet

Some of the food stuffs that one should omit from your anti acne diet includes foods which are high in fats, oils and grease. You know, greasy french fries, deep fried anything really. These foods may be naturally rich in fat or may have been cooked with grease and oils, particularly vegetable oil that have had other things cooked in it all day even. I have a hard time with safflower and sunflower oil, even virgin olive oil. I know, these are the healthier oils, but oil is oil. My best luck has been with canola oil, in moderation. The problem with these oily and greasy foods is that our body does not need a lot of oils and grease as it has to get rid of it.

This should be considered when thinking of an anti acne diet. Many believe,(and know) that the oils and grease from fast foods and other fried foods will add to the rising problems regarding the skin condition. The increase of it for me personally will cause a breakout every time. Remember, your skin needs to be able to breathe. Clogged pores can happen naturally, they don’t need our help. I have noticed by not touching my face alot has reduced the breakouts.

Good Things in a Anti Acne Diet

An anti acne diet should have high fiber fruits and vegetables to help ease the passage of the bowels. Irregular bowel movement encourages toxins to build in our body thus creating skin breakouts and blemishes. Natural grains are also great as sources of fiber. We need Water! Our body is made up of more than 90% water. So, keep yourself hydrated, it does help. Especially on those hot, humid days, which become a challenge to me. I have experienced what I call humid acne that occurs sometimes. They can appear and go away once the body is cleansed and cools down. Weird, but true.

Creating your very own anti acne diet can end up with satisfactory results if you follow the diet closely and accompany the diet with exercise and good hygiene practices.

Acne Skin Care Advice And Tips

acne skin care

Most people can have a face that is more or less acne free if they practice smart acne skin care (I say most because sometimes a dermatologist will be needed no matter how well you follow your acne skin care regime) and ignore the many myths concerning acne. Some of these myths can actually make an outbreak worse but armed with the facts you will be able to clear your skin of acne a lot quicker when a breakout occurs.

Some of the myths you will have heard and maybe even believe. For instance, chocolate has long been blamed for acne as has excessive excercise but really in 99% of cases the actual cause will be either one of or a combination of 3 things - hormone levels, stress levels and poor skin care. As we know, there isn’t a lot you can do about your hormones but you can learn to control your stress levels (at least to a certain degree) and you can practice acne skin care to prevent further breakouts.

The secret to acne skin care is to use gentle soaps and cleansers so that you avoid irritating your skin because essentially all pimples are merely skin irritations. By being gentle you won’t make an outbreak any worse and once you have your current outbreak under control, you will prevent more from appearing. The place to start with good acne skin care is washing - you should wash your face and any other area effected by pimples at least once a day and at least twice a day if you have oily skin. Wash with a mild soap and water and do not scrub as that will simply irritate your skin even more. Not scrubbing applies to drying too, just gently dab your face dry with a clean towel. If you wear makeup, apply after your wash and make sure you only use water based as this type of makeup allows your pores to breathe.

Try to resist squeezing or popping a pimple because if done prematurely you will make matters worse. Attempting to pop a pimple before it is ready will cause your skin to bruise and this leaves a red spot that lasts far longer than the pimple would have. Sometimes the pimple will break inwards when you try pop it and cause a much worse spot known as a cystic nodule - a painful, very hard lump that is very noticeable and takes forever to go. So, for a good acne skin care regime resist popping when the pimples firs appear.

Getting a sunburn will worsen an acne breakout and prevent your skin from clearing. Use a water based sun block for protection as it won’t clogg your pores and make your outbreak any worse.

The odd outbreak of acne can effect the best of us but with good acne skin care you can heal and prevent breakouts and keep your skin looking healthy and fresh. For more info on acne myths please feel free to download my free ebook “Acne Myths” by clicking here.

Acne Home Remedy Treatments

acne home remedy

Many people consider an acne home remedy to be the best solution to their acne problems because they are aware that over the counter medications are too harsh and often lead to a worsening of the acne. They also see other advantages such as the convenience and of course it is a lot more economical to use items already found around the home than buying treatments from the drug store.

A Few Acne Home Remedy Tips

Applying fresh mint juice liberally onto your face followed by strawberry leaves to reduce the swelling is an acne home remedy known to give good results. Also try mixing turmeric powder in the mint juice and apply it for about 30 minutes.

Toothpaste is another household product known to be an effective acne home remedy. Simply apply to any swollen spots before going to bed and you should see a marked improvement in the swelling by morning.

Mix some lemon juice with rose water and apply to your face for half an hour every day will produce good results in getting rid of acne. It will also lighten up any blemishes left by acne and give your skin an overall better look.

Most acne occurs because of changes in the person’s hormones or because of bad food habits and even because of wrong skin care. If these are reasons you feel also apply in your case, you need to start thinking seriously about solving your problems through an acne home remedy or two.

Applying ripe tomotoes to your spots might not sound very appealing but it is a well known acne home remedy from the mediterranean. Just leave on for an hour before washing away and see the difference straight away.

A little more complicated but an acne home remedy known to have really good results is grinding some nutmeg and mixing with warm milk (do not boil) before applying to the acne.

To help with acne scars you can rub either ice or honey on them for an immediate improvement. Also good for acne scars is raw papaya juice.

Bolster The Effects By Looking After Yourself

No matter how you treat your acne (but especially when using an acne home remedy) it is always a good idea to bolster the good work done by making sure you drink lots of water every day and try to give yourself some excercise regularly. It costs nothing to do either and both together will help your acne condition. Although not free, vitamin supplements are cheap enough to consider taking a course as again they will help bolster your acne home remedy treatments.

As you can see from the list above, an acne home remedy (or at least most of them) can be found in and around most homes. While I am a great believer in prevention is better than cure, if you do find yourself with an acne attack I would rather you use a mild acne home remedy than one of the harsh medications on the market today that can do more harm than good.

I go into a lot more detail about the use of the acne home remedy in my ebook including recipes for 7 therapeutic facial masks that have been trusted for centuries for their potent cleaning powers. You can download my ebook by clicking here.
